MLM and TIR - Make City Exchange safe, meet with your tenants!

City Exchange tenants have been through power cuts, floods, mould, break ins, and vandalism. The property managers MLM and the freeholders TIR have give us some of our demands, but there's still some vital work that needs to be done to ensure the safety of the people paying their wages - the residents!

West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue have wasted over £11,000 on false call outs due to the dodgy fire safety system in the building. There still isn't any functioning CCTV, and the front of the building is still in a state of disrepair. Property manager Sue Kemp needs to act and meet with her tenants to solve the issues in City Exchange.

We know that MLM and TIR are listening to ACORN - now it's time for them to act!

Dear Sue Kemp,

As you know, tenants in City Exchange, the property you manage, have faced many issues. Flooding, power cuts, vandalism, break ins, mould, and damp to name a few. There has been good progress following the action and demands of the tenants with ACORN, but there is still work to be done. Do the work, secure the building, meet with us.

The property is not safe. There is currently no CCTV and the entrance is not secured. Anti-social behaviour, such as vandalism, theft, and property damage, is an unfortunate circumstance because of the lack of safety measures in the building. We understand that your managing director Michael Jacobs thinks the concerns of your tenants are ‘utter nonsense’, but we take this very seriously.

West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue have spent over £11,000 on wasted call-outs due to the poor fire system, which goes off when tenants are using the shower or spraying deodorant. Given the previous issues with cladding on your building, it shows a lack of care has gone into making the building fit for the tenants, our members.

You seem to have no issue wasting over £11,000 from the already decimated budget of Bradford’s key workers, but are unwilling to spend some of MLM’s own money on securing a building with over 100 homes in. We are aware that MLM has over £70,000 in cash reserves alone. Is it acceptable for West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue to waste their money, but unacceptable for you to spend yours?

We demand the following
- Confirmation that works have begun to install the CCTV and to secure the frontage, including the leaks causing damage to the communal space upon entry by the week commencing 22nd of March. 
- A month’s rent back to all tenants as a goodwill gesture, as well as covering damages to property from mould and damp. We want confirmation of this the week commencing 22nd of March
- Agree to a meeting between yourself and ACORN members 
- An apology in writing from yourself to your tenants for the damage and difficulty living in the building has caused them
