ACORN Oxford member Maria is at risk of homelessness. She has been served a Section 21 eviction notice by her landlord after she complained about disrepair - including serious hazards like faulty heating and fire alarms. This seems to be a clear case of 'revenge eviction.'
This shocking behaviour has gone unchallenged by Oxford City Council, who have failed time after time to issue an 'improvement notice' on the landlord. This notice would both force the landlord to do the repairs, but also make the eviction notice invalid as it would be classed legally as a revenge eviction.
But the council are refusing to use these powers, and seems to be determined to take the side of rogue landlords over vulnerable tenants.
We have asked the housing lead Linda Smith for an urgent meeting about this to find out what's happened here and get assurances that Maria won't be made homeless. But so far she has refused to meet with us. Please support our campaign by emailing the council below!
