Welsh Streets Resist the Rent Hikes!

The Welsh Streets development in Liverpool is made up of nearly 300 terraced houses, most of which are built-to-rent by property developer PlaceFirst. The original site was extremely ran-down and derelict for over a decade, following which PlaceFirst stepped in to offer affordable homes to the community. Welsh Streets residents have been battling yearly rent increases, which are now untenable, with some tenants reporting increases of £200-£300 a month under their new tenancy agreements and extortionate fees and charges for standard wear and tear, upon moving out - double and triple the amount of their deposits!

Our community is made up of many key-workers - for the NHS, teachers, families and young professionals, who are being priced out of the area by PlaceFirst, and driving up the prices for the rest of the Toxteth and Dingle neighbourhood in Liverpool.
