Walton Robinson - Pay Up For Making Your Tenants Live in Uninhabitable Conditions!

Our members have been living with dangerous and unacceptable mould and damp since the beginning of their contract in September. The issue was so severe a private contractor sent by the company said the space was dangerous and uninhabitable. Despite the tenants first reporting the issue at the start of September and regularly contacting Walton Robinson over a period of three months, no sufficient action was taken. ACORN first contacted the company in January demanding satisfactory repairs and a rent rebate of 50% from the start of the tenancy until the issue was fixed. Although some repairs have now been made, the main issue of ventilation has still hasn't and our members have still not received an apology or acknowledgment of wrongdoing.

Walton Robinson believed that by refusing to communicate with ACORN, brushing off their tenants’ demands and conducting insufficient repairs that we would give in. By marching on their offices, the landlord’s home and carrying out communication blockades, we have made ourselves impossible to ignore. They have now offered some compensation, but are refusing to take the blame for the issues in the property, still haven't provided a schedule of remaining repairs and haven't compensated our members properly for having to live in uninhabitable conditions!

We have already forced Walton Robinson to take us seriously by our sustained efforts and ability to mobilise impressive numbers for actions. Dear Anna Rogers,

I am writing as a concerned member of the public, in reference to an ongoing issue with the property you manage at 45 Kelvin Grove. I wish to raise concerns that the issue has not been taken seriously by yourselves or the landlord even after the tenants have followed the proper channels. They are still waiting for rightly deserved compensation and a schedule of repairs.

Our members living at the property have been living with dangerous and unacceptable mould and damp since the beginning of their contract in September and have been told by contractors hired by yourselves that the space was uninhabitable in the state it was in. Our member Ms. Barnes, whose room most of the damp is in, has had her belongings and, more importantly, her health put at serious risk due to this.

I appreciate that some repairs have been made but the main issue of ventilation has not been fixed, your tenants are still waiting for a full schedule of remaining repairs and for you to agree to the compensation they deserve.

The demands are a 50% rent rebate for the period of disrepair and a satisfactory schedule of repairs. These are extremely reasonable, and I believe they should be met in full and in a timely manner. Please consult prior communications you have received from ACORN for further information on the demands and respond by the 14th of May.
