ACORN Southwark are on a mission to ban rental 'bidding wars' in Southwark. Lettings agents in the borough are profiteering from the housing crisis by pressuring renters to bid on properties to secure a tenancy. This practice of 'bidding wars' further pushes up rents and pits renters against each other to bid and make offers above the asking price on available properties. The housing crisis in London is bad enough without greedy lettings against profiteering!
The government agrees with us, and are making 'bidding wars' illegal in the Renters Rights Bill, and Southwark council have also backed our campaign to call upon lettings agents to stop this partice immediately.
However, Kinleigh, Folkard & Hayward, who are one the biggest lettings agent in the area have still not agreed to stop using this practice. ACORN have contacted them serveral times to raise our concerns about their sales practices, and most recently their manager Andy Parker threatened to assault our members when we spoke to them.
We don't want Kinleigh, Folkard & Hayward to carry our exploiting people in our borough.
