ACORN Members of The Fold - A 'build to rent' apartment building owned by corporate giant Legal & General have been suffering severe issues since september 2022, just 2 months after the building completion and opening.

Issues

The residents have reported a catalogue of issues that fall well below the legal obligations of a landlord such as 

  • Dangerous living conditions including black mold, damp and  flooding, collapsed ceilings, and sewage leaks

  • Repeated maintenance failures including water outages, broken doors, faulty lift systems.

  • Serious fire safety failures including faulty alarms, unclear evacuation procedures, and unsafe ‘stay put’ policies putting residents at unacceptable risk ...

  • Breaches of privacy and right to quiet enjoyment caused by frequent and unannounced visits from management and surveyors

  • Failure to protect tenant deposits in line with current legislation

ACORN members are demanding: 

  • Full rent compensation for tenants dating back to when the issues first began

  • Rent arrears waived 

  • Support finding alternative housing including covering moving costs

  • Improved and regular communication with tenants
