ACORN England Campaigns

The rise in short term holiday lettings such as AirBnB is having a devastating effect on our communities. ACORN members have seen short term holiday lets replace long term rental accommodation, meaning rents are going up and conditions are going down.

In some areas the rise in short term lets is breaking up communities and destroying their cultural heritage, Welsh language speaking villages have been particularly affected. In other areas, the lack of long term residents has led to businesses closing down, schools struggling to get funding, and NHS staff shortages

Members have reported feelings of isolation with neighbours being forced to move away, with the ‘heart’ being ripped out of communities.

That’s why we want MPs to sign this early day motion tabled by Rachael Maskell MP which calls for licensing and restrictions on Short Term Lets, to stop them fuelling the housing crisis and threatening public services, community spaces and cultural heritage by forcing people to move out of their hometowns.

Please use the template below to email your MP to tell them to support the motion, and to attend the debate when the Private Members Bill gets a second reading in Parliament on Friday 9th December 2022.
