The system is rigged. It is set up to benefit a tiny group of people who are profiting at our expense: the billionaire class, CEOs of energy companies, the middle men like bailiffs who leech off of our people’s misery. All of this is facilitated by politicians who refuse to challenge this status quo and who continue to privatise and run our services into the ground so they and their mates can line their pockets.

It’s working for them, but it’s broken for us. We are paying through the nose and we’re not just seeing nothing in return, we’re seeing things getting worse all around us. Shops closing, broken infrastructure, underfunded and understaffed services, living with poor conditions… it feels like we’re going backwards, not forwards.

The cost of living crisis is hurting us all. Prices are extortionate, but wages haven’t caught up. We’re working more than ever, but more and more of us are struggling to make ends meet.

Every day too many of us are forced to make impossible choices on what to cut back on to keep debt and bailiffs at bay: food, electricity, water, rent, fuel, council tax, kids clothes, phone bills... Stress, poor mental health, isolation, overwork, malnutrition, fuel poverty, and homelessness are the result.

It is taking away our ability to live healthy, happy lives, it’s breaking down the foundations of stable families and strong communities, and it’s costing us all in the long run.

I'm writing to you as a constituent concerned with the cost of living crisis. This isn’t just a news headline, it’s a growing crisis and national emergency that is having a devastating effect on people locally.

Right now, people across the country are working harder than ever but falling further behind. The price of food, rent, energy, water and transport keeps rising while wages fail to keep up.

Families are being forced to make impossible decisions between heating and eating, paying the rent or paying off debt, buying school clothes or topping up the electricity meter. More and more people are living with constant stress, poor mental health, fuel poverty and the threat of homelessness.

The only people who are benefitting are the bosses of the big energy and utilities firms and the private companies that take profit from our public services, while running those into the ground. The rest of us are left paying the price.

It doesn't have to be this way. As my elected representative, I am writing to you to ask that you stand with your constituents, not with the interests that benefit from keeping things as they are.

We need action that tackles the root causes of the crisis, not more attempts to paper over the cracks.

I urge you to support these practical, popular policies that would give people real support and security in the short term, and build a fairer economy that ensures dignity in the long term.

- Introduce meaningful rent controls to stop runaway housing costs
- Write off debts built up paying for essential living costs such as energy and water
- Replace the current council tax system with a proportional property tax that is fairer for ordinary households.

The people who built this country and keep it running deserve more than a lifetime of debt, insecurity and impossible choices. We deserve decent homes, affordable essentials, reliable public services and to be able to live with dignity.

I ask that you pledge to support the policies listed above, and meet with ACORN to discuss furthering them in Parliament.
