Put severe strain on local energy, national grid and water infrastructure
Potentially increase local resident utility bills to subsidise the infrastructure needed to support a data centre
Run gas and diesel generators 24/7 creating noise and worsen air quality
Result in the loss of vital transport links due to the closure of the park and ride service
Permanently damage or destroy local wildlife systems
Result in loss of green space and amenity for local residents
There are also other significant concerns relating to flood risk, the scale of the development, heat island effect, lack of employment opportunities and traffic.
We have two demands:
- DITCH THE DATA CENTRE
- SAVE THE PARK AND RIDE
The residents we’ve spoken to had no idea this was being planned and they want their voices heard.
The planning application doesn’t include any specific information on the issues above or commit to a process of consultation with residents or address the local impact of losing the Park & Ride. Data centres have no place in residential areas and are being imposed on underdeveloped communities under the guise of innovation and investment. Where planning permission was granted and data centres built, the residents and local councils face severe and ongoing issues that far outstrip any alleged benefits of data centres.
We are local people working with ACORN to demand that the community comes first.
